Frances Zhang, BS
Frances (She/Her) obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, and Child-Adolescent Mental Health Studies from New York University. She is currently a graduate student at Columbia University pursuing a M.A. in Psychological Counseling and an Ed.M in Mental Health Counseling.
Born in China, Frances is bilingual and has an international background. Driven by her open-mindedness and curiosity, she has had the opportunity to study, research, and work in diverse communities. Her past research centers around mental health stigma, social prejudice, and marginalized sexual identities. She draws on her involvement in community and educational agencies to create a space of strength, safety and healing. As she navigates diverse identities and contexts, she especially celebrates clients’ courage to take the first step in seeking help, and honors the intersectional complexities of clients’ lived experiences.
Her approach to counseling is warm and collaborative, with an undertone of humor and passion. Tailoring a treatment plan for each client, she draws from an eclectic combination of theories, including cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness frameworks. She believes our past, present and future are interwoven, just as our mind, body and soul. She is comfortable with a variety of client concerns, but is especially interested in helping those wrestling with anxiety, depression, family or romantic relationship issues, career burnout, life adjustments, and special challenges faced by AAPI Queer folks. She also offers mandarin counseling services upon request.
Ultimately, Frances wishes to be that therapist who laughs, cries, and loves along with the client’s journey. In her free time, she loves to listen to RnB music and spends time with her aussiedoodle bestie “Chips”!
