Gua-sha is a technique that uses a tool with a smooth firm edge to scrape the skin to relieve different symptoms. The acupuncturist will apply oil to the skin and start to move the tool in one direction on an area that needs care. Tiny purple and red blood vessels come to the surface, releasing toxins and restoring the area.

After a few days or less the bruising disappears, and the area is more even. It can also be used in cases where there is a virus by releasing heat, fever and toxins. Gua-sha is usually in conjunction with needling and other therapies.
